The Three Choirs Festival and other Hereford Events for Summer 2015

One of the great things about summer breaks in Herefordshire is that you can have as much or as little culture as you like. Indeed, you can immerse yourself in music, food and the arts… or escape the crowds entirely. Of course, many of our guests do a bit of both in the course of a minibreak at the Feathers Hotel in Ledbury, where we can provide the best of both worlds. Here are some highly recommended events and things to do in Herefordshire this summer:

1000 Mile Trial at Croft Castle ( July 16th 15:00-17:00 / HR6 9PW)
Featuring a display of the Royal Automobile Club’s finest vintage vehicles, the Castle forms a scenic stopping point as part of a 1000 mile challenge (quite a feat for pre 1940’s vehicles!). This is a great chance for visitors of all ages to admire some truly classic old motors- and perhaps also have a day at the castle and a ramble in some fantastic countryside. Further details here.

Three Choirs Festival, Hereford (25th July- 1st August 2015)
This wonderful week of music, arts and performance returns to our home county of Herefordshire this year. Lovers of Choral music, as the title suggests, will be in their element, with stirring performances of classical and sacred music- but also uplifting voice choirs and even soul and gospel. Nor is this merely a spectator’s event either: Novel tours, talks and workshops include everything from Elgar by Bicycle to Latin Dance, along with stacks of other goings on. Children’s workshops and storytelling sessions also make this an excellent event for families, with plenty of things to do with kids in Hereford this summer.
There is a full line up of events, along with full ticket details and a handy guide on the official festival site here:

The Hereford & Gloucester Canal Festival/ Beer, Cider and Perry Festival 2015 (22/23 Aug, the Wharf House Restaurant, GL2 8DB)
The revival of our canals has been an unsung regional triumph in recent years. Much to the joy of boaters, walkers, cyclists and anglers, many of these historic waterways are being restored to their former glory. What better way to celebrate than with a weekend of nostalgia, heritage and a drop of the good stuff?
Expect food and craft stalls, classically retored canal boats and a selection of excellent tipples in what should be a glorious day or two out for our guests, less than half an hour from the Feathers, . Entry won’t cost you a bean either, making this an excellent free event. More details here.
