If you ever considered Sunday as something of a low ebb in the week, a trip to Ledbury is the perfect tonic. Whether you opt for beautiful countryside, a dollop of culture or a spot of elegant loafing in the town, long weekends and Ledbury were simply made for each other. Here are 5 ways to make the most of your next break:
1. Grand Gardens & Outdoor Events

What could be more perfect than a stroll in one of Herefordshire’s classic English gardens without a care in the world? Ledbury is blessed with several within easy reach. Hergest Croft makes for a beautifully framed walk in view of the Black Mountains, while Picton Gardens offer rare breeds and more refinement. But our lush country houses and grounds also offer more than peace and quiet. Hellens Garden, for example, hosts some wonderful summer events in Herefordshire for any green-fingered guest. Hellens Garden Festival (11-12 June) is a prime example, featuring a garden library, live poetry readings and a special talk from author and celebrity gardener Carol Klein. 2. Delve into the Past
With a slower pace to the town later in the weekend, Sundays are the ideal time to roam at your own pace and soak in some of the Ledbury’s heritage gems, among which are some of the finest historic attractions in Herefordshire. Marvel at the lovely old Market House or ramble down Church Street and you’ll see exactly what we mean, while the history of The Feathers Hotel is an intriguing tale in its own right.
For further local heritage attractions open to the public, Butcher Row House Museum has everything from English Civil War curiosities to musical instruments. Or, should you visit from mid-July onwards, the wonderful 16th Century Painted Room also opens on Sundays and features some of the finest surviving Elizabethan era artwork you will find anywhere in Britain.
3. Cultured Sundays & Live Entertainment
One unsung attraction of a long weekend in Ledbury is the chance to catch a lively performance, whether your thing is a live gig, a classical concert or an evening at the movies. For intimate live blues, folk and jazz performances within walking distance, Ledbury has something to offer with some great local and travelling artists performing most Sundays within the town..
For bigger shows meanwhile, Malvern Theatres is one of the best venues for live events in Herefordshire and a particularly good bet to end the weekend on an entertaining note. Sunday highlights for summer include a date with The Choir That Rocks (June26th) and a live screening of Andre Rieu’s Maastricht Concert (July 24th), while there are also a range of have-a-go workshops. Keep an eye on the official website here for further cinema and theatre listings.
4. Enjoy a Sunday Feast
