With idyllic, rolling countryside and fascinating hidden heritage, the Malvern Hills area is one of the most picturesque places to visit in Herefordshire. At just 6 miles from our Hotel in Ledbury, a trip to the area is a must if you’re staying in the area, especially now as we approach longer and hopefully brighter days. Here are a handful of recommended activities and sites to explore in the area:
While many guests visit the Malvern Hills to get away from it all, Malvern itself is also a hotbed of performing arts. For over 80 years now, Malvern Theatres has been a trailblazing venue for drama, plays, live music and comedy in Herefordshire.
Coming up in 2016 are some stellar shows and very special guests. To name just two on the way shortly, survival expert Ray Mears will be reflecting on adventures and inspirations in his special Tales of Endurance talk on 2nd March 2016, while award winning virtuoso classical guitarist Craig Ogden will perform a spellbinding selection from the likes of Vivaldi and Medelssohn on February 24th.
There are also cinema screenings of all the biggest and best current movies, ideal for a romantic or family evening at the pictures. You can find full listings and further information on the Malvern Theatres site:
Walk or Cycle
From mountain biking enthusiasts to those who enjoy hiking, in the Malverns you have all the space and scenery you could wish for a day in the countryside. There are many routes to try for visitors of all abilities and your day out can be as gentle or as challenging as you like. There is always something to see and each season has its own beauty. With so much to explore, it’s hardly surprising many of our guests come for walking holidays in the Malvern Hills. Take In One of the Best Views in Herefordshire
If you are looking for a great place to admire the view, Worcestershire Beacon provides one of the most inspiring vistas anywhere in Herefordshire. On a clear day, you can see the Welsh Mountains in the backdrop; a place to bring the camera if ever there was one.
Try parking on the car park on Beacon Road in Upper Wyche (WR14 4EH), which is well located and costs just £3 to park all day. The view from the Beacon is well worth the walk!
Malvern Hills Geocaching
For the uninitiated, geocaching is a form of digital treasure hunt that is ideal for adding some spice to any walking trip. Using a combination of your smart phone and some good old fashioned intuition, you must locate a tiny secret deposit, leaving your own stamp or sometimes even exchanging a little keepsake. It is not only good fun, but a great way to get youngsters out into the countryside. It’s also one of those completely free activities to enjoy in the Malvern Hills, or anywhere for that matter. All you need to get started is to download a free app: www.geocaching.com
