Gardens & Houses

Hellens Manor

Regularly open to the general public for an entrance fee, which covers a guided tour, this historic house in Much Marcle is run by a family trust and a living monument to much of England’s history. The family trust is engaged in non-profit making areas in the fields of music, literacy, and the environment and ‘Hellensmusic’ and ‘Hellens Garden Festival’ events envelop these principles. It remains a living home, and not a museum, although it contains a wealth of period furnishings, artifacts, paintings and decorations. Tel: 01531 660504  hellensmanor.com

Picton Gardens

Evolved during several decades on  the original site of Ernest Ballard's Michaelmas Daisy nursery. There are many fine specimens of interesting trees and shrubs, creating a backdrop to thousands of herbaceous perennials. The garden is intensively planted with both traditional borders and areas of more modern, natural planting schemes. Tel. 01684 540416   www.autumnasters.co.uk
